How To Make Your Own Custom Fly Leaders

Saturday, September 29th, 2007

By Stanley Stanton A properly designed and well-made fly leader serves as a vital connection between the fly line and the fly. When fly-casting, the energy of the fly line is transferred through a tapered leader to turn the fly over in a presentable manor into the strike zone. Of course, the long fly leader also keeps the fish from seeing that there is a fly attached to the fly line. In the modern world of fly-fishing, there is a need for specialized weights and lengths of fly leaders for the wide variety of fish species that are now being sought. For example, if you are dry-fly fishing a clear lake on a calm day, you may want to have a very long leader; one that is perhaps 12 to 16 feet long with a very fine tippet that does not scare off feeding fish. However, if you are fishing a river or a lake near the bottom, using a sink-tip line or sinking fly line with a nymph or streamer, you may need a 5 to 6 foot leader that will help to hold the fly down longer in the strike zone. Dry fly fishing rivers for trout usually requires a 9-foot leader with a soft mono tippet section and a soft mono tippet. Dry line, or grease-line steelhead fishing requires a stiff butt section, and stiff tippet section, to help turn over larger steelhead flies. Most saltwater fly-fishing requires special, hard stiff monofilament, leaders that are designed to turn over salt-water flies in very hot and humid climates where abrasive sand and warm salt-water conditions exist. There are many leader formulas to be found in the fly-fishing community, and the following is one that was given to me by my friend Mr. Ramn Aranguren, a past Argentinean fly-casting champion. I have used this leader formula over the years, and it has also worked well for many of my fly fishing associates. This leader has a long stiff butt section that will turn over those big bushy dry flies, weighted nymphs, steelhead flies, and will help you to drive a fly into the wind. I call it the 60/40 and here are a couple formula variations of it for different fly-fishing situations. First, take a piece of notebook paper and draw an 8-inch line. This will be used for writing down your marks and figures for the layout of the 60/40 tapered fly-leader and should be saved for future reference. Starting from left to right at the 5 point or about 60 %, make a short vertical line that is above and below line. Therefore, everything to the left of this vertical line will be the butt section or 60 percent and everything to the right of the vertical line will be the tippet section or 40 percent of the 8 line. Lets say you want to make a 9 ft. leader or 108: Take 60 % of 108 and you get about 65, that is how long the butt section will be, so write 65 above the 8 line and left of the vertical line on the paper. The butt section will consist of two sections. Take 60 % of 65 and you get 39; this is the length of the first butt section, which will be, .019 diameter leader material. Make a short vertical line below the 8 line to separate these two sections. The second section is 65 minus 39 or 26 of, .018 diameter leader material. Write down these figures under the line on your paper for the 1st and 2nd butt sections. The tippet section is also broken down into the 60/40 formulas: Subtract 65 from 108 and you get 43. This is the tippet section; so write 43 above the line on the right side of the vertical mark on your paper; this is 40 % of the line. Now take 60 % of 43 and you get approximately 27, which is the length of the first section of the tippet section. Mark this with a short vertical line below the 8 line. The first section will be divided into three 9 pieces of leader material .015 diameter, .014 diameter and .012 diameter. Write in these figures under the 8 line for reference. The second section is the tippet, which will be 17 of .010 diameter Write these figures under the 8 line. If needed, you can add extra length to the tippet, or tie on an additional 20 of a smaller size tippet if so desired. If you need a leader that will present a smaller fly very nicely, here is variation of the 60/40: Draw out the 8 line on your paper but this time, make your vertical mark at the halfway point. In this example we will make a 10 foot or 120 leader. Therefore, each half will be 60, write this figure on each side of the vertical mark above the line. Now, the 60/40 for the butt section: 60 % of 60 for the 1st section will be 36 of, .019 diameter leader material. The 2nd section or 40 % will be 24 of, .018 diameter leader material, write these figures under the 8line for reference. The tippet section will be slightly different; divide it into the 60/40. The first section of the tippet section or 36 will be divided into three segments: one 12 of .014 diameter, one 12 of .012 diameter and one 12 of 010 diameter leader material: these are the three segments of the 1st tippet section. Mark and write these figures under the 8 line on the paper. The tippet will be 24 of.009, mark and write these figures under the 8 line on your paper. Now that you have some leader formulas, what is next? The rule of thumb for making a leader is that the first section of the butt section should not be any stiffer than the end of the fly line. Dont put a 40-lb butt section on a 4 or 5 wt. fly line; it will not turn over properly. However, a 40-lb butt section would most likely work on a 9 or 10 wt. fly line. Your goal is to make a tapered leader that will smoothly and effectively transfer the energy of the fly line to turn over the fly. Select the sizes of leader material you will need depending on the number of sections in the leader and tippet size for your type of fishing. Try a discount sporting goods store for bulk spools of the heavier monofilament in different sizes and colors and your local fly shop for a wide range of sizes and types of tippet materials that you will need to make your own custom leaders. There are many different types of knots that can be used to connect the leader sections together, but perhaps the most popular is the blood knot. It is quick and easy to tie, and you will not waste a lot of material tying the knot. If you are going to use fluorocarbon leader material for your leaders or tippets you may find that the triple surgeons knot will give you better knot strength than the blood knot. I also recommend using the Double Uni knot to tie fluorocarbon tippets to your fly. Use a nail knot to make the connection between fly line and the leader butt section. If you want to make a loop-to-loop connection, cut the 1st. butt section about 8 below the nail knot and tie a perfection loop knot in both cut ends and loop them together. This will give the angler an easy way to change leaders or replace broken or damaged leaders quickly while on the water. The following is a list of leader material breaking strength and thickness in thousandths of an inch, because each manufacturers product varies, these values are only approximate: 4lb.= .005, 6lb.= .009, 8lb.= .010, 10lb.= .012, 14lb.= .014, 15lb.= .015, 20lb.= .018, 25lb.= .019, 30lb.= .020 Stanley Stanton is an Oregon Fly Fishing Guide and McKenzie River guide, Visit: http://www.oregon-fly-fishing-with-stan.com For beginning fly fishing tips, and information about Rainbow Trout Fly Fishing, Steelhead Fly Fishing and Oregon Salmon Fishing. Small Claims Courts and How They Work

Thursday, September 27th, 2007

By Chuck Lunsford So youve decided to go down to the courthouse and go to the Small Claims Division. What now you ask. Lets take a look at the how and why regarding small claims courts. How did they come about and why are they used so extensively. The first small claims court was created in Cleveland in 1913. Within a few years every state had such a court of limited jurisdiction. Small claims courts are attractive for consumers who want to collect a small debt or recover damages for a faulty product or for shoddy service. However, small claims courts are used heavily by businesses and public utilities that want to collect payments from customers for unpaid bills. In a single court session, a department store, utility company, or hospital may obtain judgments against a long list of debtors, making the process very economical. We do not need an attorney to represent us. When you do go to courtroom, you will perhaps be surprised to see this group of people, wearing official badges and sitting in the jury box. Relax; you didnt accidentally stumble into some major hearing about to take place. Read on. These folks are called mediators. They have been handpicked by the court and are highly qualified to act on most cases. They have years of knowledge and experience that effectively works for both parties. When the clerk of the court calls your name and the name of the other party, you will both stand up. When the clerk of the court recognizes both parties are present, he or she will hand a mediator your file at which point your little group goes off into a private room. The mediators do not get to see the file beforehand. The mediator looks at the file, read the statement of claim and asks if there is any conciliatory manner in which the problem can be solved, short of a trial before a judge. During the discussion that follows both parties soon realize the additional costs, time and chances of losing might be. The mediators efforts are to settle this out of court. If there is no chance for settlement, you are then instructed to go back into the courtroom and wait for the judge. Its unlikely you will have a trial that day. The clerk of the court has to schedule it for another day. Sometimes the judge will hear trials that day but you have no idea at what time. If you do decide to stick around that make sure you are ready when your name is called. If you or the other party is not present then the absent party loses by default. The small claims courts work very efficiently and you can receive rewards up to $7500 depending on the state in which you reside. How to collect is another matter entirely. Decorating Your Wedding Invitations - Part One

Wednesday, September 26th, 2007

By Tracey Wilson Congratulations on your upcoming wedding. Excitement can quickly turn into stress, as the tally rapidly rises. Curve your stressors, have fun and make your day extra special by adding your own personal touch. This article will show you invaluable ways to decorate your wedding, on any kind of budget! There’s many decorations to be made; everything from handmade invitations, to decorating the wedding arch. Your face will glow with pride, to see so much of yourself in your wedding setting. An already very special day, will be made even more special because your personality will be shining throughout. One more thing, there’s no rule that says the groom can’t help. If he enjoys making things with his hands, let him get involved also! Make sure you read both parts of this addition. Part Two goes into decorating with flowers. We’ll start with the invitations. Use your imagination and creativity in all of the decorations you are making. Don’t limit yourself to just the regular, common materials. When making your invitations, don’t just think it has to be all paper! You can use virtually anything that strikes your fancy: wood, wallpaper, gems, pictures, material, scrapbook or other craft items, etc . . . If you imagine it, chances are you can make it! There are loads of information out there to help you: the internet, library, relatives, and friends, to just name a few. One of the most unique invitations I’ve ever seen, was on plywood. You’ll need: Plywood pieces for each guest cut into the sizes you want to work with. Material Pictures Decoupage Mix Stain Sander Script Paper (or other paper for the background on back of invitation) Printed Invitations Painting Spatula/Spade Scissors Gold Craft Pen (or color to match your theme) Any other craft supplies you want to add Glue or Doublesided Tape The first thing you need to do, is decide what style you want your wedding theme in. Find material, pictures and all other craft materials, which fit your decorating theme. Cut material into strips, cut the pictures out, and lay all your materials you’ll need in front of you. Center your picture in the middle of the plywood. Glue or doubleside tape it on. (Doublesided tape is tape that is sticky on both sides). Take the spatula and add a good mix of decoupage all around the edges of the picture, covering the whole front of your plywood. Let dry until tacky, (follow the instructions on the decoupage mix). Then add any other materials, craft supplies you want on the front with your picture reapply decoupage to cover generously. Let completely dry. After it’s dried, cut off any excess materials. Sand all four edges of the wood. Now, turn over it’s time to do the back. You want the paper you chose for your background, to cover the whole piece of wood, on the back side. Glue, or doubleside tape it on. Then take your printed invitation, which you have printed on the computer, and center it in the middle. (You want your invitation to leave at least an 1 inches on all sides, or more). Adhere it to the center. Now, take your craft pen and highlight some of the background paper, to give it a three dimensional look. Congratulations, your beautiful invitations are complete. Now, get some friends to help you hand deliver them. For any that must be mailed, make sure you wrap them securely. In keeping with the style you just made your invitations, you can now make place-setting name plates to go with them. A good trick is to use small, plate stands for these. You can also make placemats, in the same theme as the invitations. Just make the wood a little bigger, and decorate the same. It will add a wonderful touch to your wedding, and give your guests extra special mementos to take home. Department 56 Collectibles: Creating Lasting Memories and Traditions with Dept 56 Displays

Tuesday, September 25th, 2007

By Elizabeth Dinger Now that the Christmas season is here, decorating is a top priority. Department 56 collectors of lighted ceramic houses are no exception. Many wait all year to get their Dept 56 houses and accessories unboxed and displayed. But why is collecting and displaying them so enjoyable (and important)? Why do Dept 56 collectors go to such lengths to make displays that are beautiful, whimsical and memorable? Here are five reasons why collecting Dept 56 houses (and other collectibles for that matter) is so enjoyable. Dept 56 Collections are Simply Beautiful and Interesting to Show The Dept 56 collection of houses and accessories are beautifully designed and always interesting. These artists obviously put a great amount of time and thought into designing the pieces and never miss adding that unique touch of character to each of them. The finished products leave no doubt about their efforts. The Dept 56 pieces are simply gorgeous whenever, or wherever, they are displayed, whether it be individually, in a vignette, or in a large display. Since the pieces are so unique and beautiful, it’s really hard to go wrong displaying them. Within a short amount of time, you can take these intricate houses and accessories and make them into an absolutely stunning display. Dept 56 Collections are an Investment It’s commonly known that you usually “get what you pay for.” Accordingly, since so much detail and thought goes into the production of these pieces, it is only natural that they will not be cheap. Consequently, collecting Dept 56 pieces can be an investment that might easily add up. As with other worthwhile investments, it comes naturally to show off these pieces. Therefore some thought and effort should go into your displays so that the collection looks as incredible as possible. Dept 56 Collections are Fantastic for Creative Expression Dept 56 collections particularly lend themselves to those who have a taste for creativity. Making arrangements of any kind is an exercise in creativity, but combining artistic expression with ‘city planning’ is always enjoyable. After all, no one wants a boring display. With all the accessories that come with the Dept 56 collections, innumerable productions of displays can be made quite easily. From the simple to the complex, from the serious to the whimsical, the varieties are endless. Just about everything is available to make the task simple. Of course, the most necessary accessory is careful thought, which, when combined with a little planning, can turn your displays into something really beautiful as opposed to the impersonal, drab displays seen in many stores. Dept 56 Collections Allow you to Express your Imagination We all like to dream and imagine what would be if….. With your Dept 56 collections you can bring some of that imagination to life. For instance, what would you have been doing if you could have lived back in the wintery times of Dickens? Which shops would you have liked to visit (or own)? Where would you have liked to live? Or how about if you lived in New England. What would you have liked to do there? Fish, watch the sea, skate,??? Your collections allow you to display some of your dreams and desires. Dept 56 Collections can Create many Wonderful Memories and Traditions How invaluable are your family traditions? We all have them and enjoy them (hopefully). Of course, your Dept 56 displays can be a lasting tradition and memory for yourselves, your kids and your friends. I don’t know about you, but in our house we usually get our houses out for Christmas. Then we go to great lengths to make them interesting, exciting and original! For young children, this yearly tradition can be exciting. They can remember the fun of previous years and eagerly wait to see how this year’s display will be different. After doing this for a number of years the traditions and memories set in. Of course, they might soon want to have their own Dept 56 displays! For whatever reason, we can all agree that a memorable display takes time, thought and patience, but is there any question that the effort is enjoyable and worthwhile? Elizabeth Dinger has been collecting and displaying Dept 56 houses for over 15 years. Solar Pumps And Solar Lights For Ponds

Sunday, September 23rd, 2007

By Mike Guista As the president of a company that sells a lot of fountain pumps, and who also receives a lot of OEM inquiries, I’ve been around the block on solar pumps. They seem like such a great idea. No wiring needed! No electric bill! I tried to sell solar pumps to major fountain manufacturers but never got a sample to one of them that could pass muster. Many customers believe that we are just too lazy to try solar, or we don’t want to cut into a 110-volt market that is already doing well. But the truth of the matter is that solar still runs into quite a few problems, not the least of which has been, in my experience, not enough sunlight! You see, most of the solar pumps out there are powered by solar panels (many of them quite good quality, by the way) that require direct sunlight in order to work. That means that they go on and off all day long, depending on whether a cloud is passing, where the sun is in reference to the panel, and so forth. Some do have batteries in them, for sure, but these units are expensive and also do not pump very much water at very high of head. The truth of the matter is that solar is a lot better idea conceptually than it is in the world when tested. Think of it this way. Those little solar lights in the yard that are collecting sunlight all day burn only 8-10 hours at night. They typically have enough power to light two tiny LED bulbs. Worse yet, when it comes to pumps, the DC pumps used for solar fountains don’t last the kind of hours that a normal magnetic rotor pump lasts. This is too bad. We have really wanted solar to work, but it has so far not panned out, not well anyway. We really caught on to this when we noticed that some companies were taking credit cards for everyting but their solar pumps. This means to us that they do not want to have to be faced with chargebacks and returns. Customers are too often disappointed in the product and demand their money back including shipping both ways. It gets to be too much. So here is what we have come to suggest to customers: think modestly. If you really want a solar pump, perhaps think of it as a novelty item as much as anything. And also make sure you have somewhere to hide the solar panel. In other words, do not plan to install a solar fountain in your front yard. The solar panels have to be put in direct sun and are easy targets for thieves. They are as easy to steal as a flower or leaf on the lawn. So plan someplace in the backyard in full sun and don’t get bothered if the thing goes off and on all day. Also, put a pump in a fountain that requires low head (height of pumping) and not much volume (from 30-80 gallons per hour maxiumum usually). Or better yet, just use solar lights. They work and they are cute. Floating solar pond lights are also available these days. These can be “thrown” on top of a pond or pool and work the same as in-the-lawn solar fixtures. The only difference, and this is a major one, they float! They are usually available in different colors for seasonal effects (red, white, and blue for July 4, for example). Differentiate or Die - 3 Keys to Eclipse Your Competition

Sunday, September 23rd, 2007

By Dean Mercado Quite frankly there are very few ways to really differentiate yourself from your competition. You make a great product, so do they. You provide top-notch customer service, they do too. Worse yet, theres probably a competitor out there that already plays a bigger and better game than you. So what can you do about it? Well, here are 3 keys you can start applying immediately to differentiate and separate yourself from the pack:Positioning. Lets face it. People want to be associated with and buy from those they believe are the best. Back in the early computer days, there was a saying that nobody ever got fired for buying an IBM. IBM was believed by most to be the best personal computer available. Were they? Maybe. However, they were the perceived expert. Gaining this credibility in your field without a doubt tilts the scales in your favor. This is one of the greatest ways to magnetize your business and lead you on a path to create raving fans. Relationship Building. Consistently stay in tune with and in front of your desired audience - not hard selling, but relationship building. When you truly and genuinely have their best interest at heart, and believe me, they can sense it, you lay the foundation for an insurmountable bond to be formed between you. Remember, people buy from people, not, companies. The 180 Marketing Method. The crux of this methodology is simply to look at what your competition is doing and do something else. Dare to be different. The best way to successfully pull this off is to look into other industries and pioneer their successful marketing ideas and techniques in your industry. I hate to be the one to tell you but, most marketing ideas and techniques have already been done somewhere by someone. So why try to reinvent the wheel. Im not saying plagiarize here. Im simply saying learn from the success others have had before you especially by leveraging ideas and techniques that are new to your industry. Theres a great quote floating around thats attributed to both Zig Ziglar and Dr. Kenneth McFarland that goes something like this: There are no traffic jams when you go the extra mile.” Applying these 3 keys will definitely get you traveling along that extra mile. So while most businesses are out there like lemmings playing follow-the-follower, I challenge you to step it up and dare to be different. Be a leader and go it alone on the road less traveled and I guarantee people will stop and take notice. 2006 Online Marketing Muscle — All Rights Reserved. Why I Prefer Online Dating

Wednesday, September 19th, 2007

By David Kwan The next most likely place to meet your match is the place where you regularly hang out. However, if your idea of socializing is hanging out at the local pub or bar with a couple of buddies, choices are pretty much limited and you’d be competing with all the guys for the limited number of girls. The bar is not exactly the best place to get to know a girl. Here’s some reason why … It doesn’t take a genius to deduce that half of the bar patrons are usually roaring drunk. And it is also a known fact that the highest quality people don’t frequent bars regularly. Even if you are not roaring drunk, you can hardly hear yourself let alone see clearly in a bar with the loud music and barely there lights. What is illustrated above is a very common scenario for the thirty something who is still single and available. This group forms the biggest group in the single and available population. They are financially stable, with a career that is definitely going places. In fact, about the only thing lacking in their life is having that special someone to share their success with. Are you also part of this group? If so, where does that leave you? Time and NOT money is the biggest constraint for this group How do you solve this problem? Money may be able to buy you many things but certainly not time. Does this mean that all is lost for the thirty something singles? Destined to live their final days in solitary? Fortunately not! Thanks to some savvy business minded people, what was once a problem is now a commercially viable business. As a matter of fact, it is a booming business for some. It all started with a simple idea of pooling together all the singles people and match make them based on the information garnered from them or post their information and let other members who have interest look them up. Another way of looking at it is as an avenue for singles to advertise their availability and an avenue for them to response to the advertisements posted. If you dwell on the nature of this business, it actually creates a win-win situation; the singles get a date for a fee and the business makes a profit from their fee. The best part of this solution is, you are not constraint by time. The service is there 24/7, 365 a year. All you have to do is signed up with an online dating agency, post some background information about yourself and also some basic qualities that you look for in a partner and bingo you’ll be served with a list of singles that match your wish list. Piece of cake, huh ? Think about it, you don’t have the time Here is a solution that has no time constraints. You do this at your own time and pace; whenever you are free and wherever you are as long as you have connection to the Internet and a notebook. How To Walk The Weight Off

Monday, September 17th, 2007

By Patricia Zelkovsky Perhaps the cheapest and most expedient way to lose weight is to walk it out. Most people can lose at least one pound a week by walking at a moderate pace for at least thirty to sixty minutes a week. Not only is walking great for weight loss, but it also cuts your risk of stress related mood disorders, heart disease, colon cancer, stroke, breast cancer and diabetes! Every individual is different when it comes to how long it will take for him or her to burn the fat off. To put it simply, a pound of fat equals 3500 calories. In order to lose that one pound a week you will need to burn off 3,500 more calories than the total calories that you consumed for that week. Time does not matter as much as distance. However the faster you walk the more calories you will be burning per mile. Walking your weight off is not the same as strolling. You can stroll weight off but it will take a lot longer then if you walk at the optimal fat burning pace. This determined pace means that you are breathing a little hard but not so hard that you cannot carry on a conversation in full sentences. It helps to pretend that you are walking fast, like you would if you were a bit late for an important appointment. When you are walking at this speed it means that you are exercising at sixty to seventy percent of your maximum heart rate, which burns calories efficient, helps create lean muscle and elevates the efficiency of the metabolism. So how do you know how many calories you are expending? A simple rule of thumb is 100 calories per mile for a 160-pound person. However to treat walking your weight off seriously you will need two tools, a pedometer which can be acquired for about twenty dollars at a drug store and some way of counting the calories of the foods you eat every day. This can be as simple as an online site with lists of calorie values for different foods and a notebook. Most pedometers automatically calculate the amount of calories that you have burned based on your weight, height and other values. Most of them measure the distance you have walked in both miles and calories burned. This allows you to easily see how many calories you have burned during a walking session. By keeping track of the calories you consume during the day you can easily calculate how far you would need to walk to burn off the 3,500 calories that you would need to burn off in one week to lose just one pound. If you wanted to lose two pounds then you would increase your walking to burn off 7,000 calories a week. Patricia has been interested in health and fitness since the early 70’s and knows how to seperate hype from fact.Dieting & Fitness Articles & Tips Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Patricia_Zelkovsky http://EzineArticles.com/?How-To-Walk-The-Weight-Off&id=180343 purchase soma online buy carisoprodol soma best online soma buy cheap soma online

Make a Woman Fall In Love With You

Saturday, September 15th, 2007

By Terry Hernon MacDonald Youve been out with a woman a couple of times, and youre crazy about her. You want her to be crazy about you, too. Heres the plan: Invite her to your place for dinner. Casually explain to her, though, that you have to get up early the next morning. (It works best if you actually do have to get up early. If you dont, arrange to go to the gym before work. Its best not to lie.) Cook for her. Youve heard it said that the quickest way to a mans heart is through his stomach. Well, Ive got news. It works for women, too, and I mean big time. If she likes you, or even if shes teetering on the fence about it, you very may well seal the deal by feeding her. It makes her feel cared for, and the contrast of watching a manly man like you perform such a nurturing act is devastatingly sexy. Roll up your sleeves just a bit. Let her admire your forearms as you wield a heavy skillet. If youre not accustomed to preparing more than Hot Pockets, head over to foodnetwork.com beforehand for a couple of easy recipes that are sure to please her. Try the dish ahead of time, so that you know you can bring it off. Dont worry, though, if you mess up on the big night. She’ll be delighted that you tried. Whatever you do, do not allow her to take over. Put a drink in her hand and tell her that her job is to relax. A great girl will appreciate that. You will utterly and completely impress her. A potential pain in the neck will tell you everything youre doing wrong and will tell you to sit down, so she can do things properly. This may seem like a good idea at the time, but trust me, this type of woman will tell you what youre doing wrong for the rest of your life. If worse comes to worst, and you render dinner inedible, laugh it off and order take-out. A great girl will laugh with along you. Kiss her goodnight. But do not sleep with her. As tempting as this might be for both of you, you will score big points if you dont. Instead, take the woman gently into your arms. Kiss her meaningfully and soulfully. Remind her of your early appointment the next day and say youre sorry you cant spend more time together. Tell her youll call her but do not say when. Walk her to her car. Heres what will happen: Shell spend most of the next day wondering why you didnt leap on her as other men would have in your position. Shell know, however, that youre not gay because of the way you kissed her (a scene shes likely to replay in her mind all day long, incidentally). She will wonder if youll calland when. Because youre a guy whos good to his word, you will call, just not right away (even if it kills you). The goal here is not to play games but to give her time to mentally savor the events of the previous evening. Give her time to build you up in her own mind. Whatever you do, do not send flowers. Dont email her. Let things lie. Call her a day or two later. Its more than likely that shell be absolutely over the moon to hear from you. I’m sure you can take it from there. Finding Compatible E-Dates

Saturday, September 15th, 2007

By Allie Ochs In the world of online dating misrepresentation is at an all time high. Janice, a fitness enthusiast, was excited about her e-mail exchange with Rob. He seemed to share her interest in fitness and the outdoors. They wrote about mountain biking, skiing and golfing. Rob suggested an interest in these activities, but never mentioned once having engaged in any of them. When Janice and Rob met it became apparent that he was not a fitness or outdoors enthusiast. In real life he also looked much older than in the picture that accompanied his online profile. He had misrepresented himself to impress Janice. Needless to say, they parted after their first face-to-face encounter with mixed feelings. Discovering incompatibility in e-mail exchanges becomes much easier if you follow these tips:BE TRUTHFUL in your own description. While mingling among singles in a highly competitive environment you may be tempted to paint your very best picture. Putting your best foot forward does not mean inflating your image or exaggerating in your profile. The key to finding a compatible love is being authentic instead of pretending to be what you are not. Being real may not guarantee a huge number of online dates, but if you are serious about, love the bottom line is quality, not quantity. To find a like-minded date, dont play games. When your profile rings true, you will probably attract someone who is also truthful. DIG DEEPER once you have begun your email exchange. Ask questions about his or her life, values, beliefs, hobbies, likes and dislikes. Rephrase your questions in subsequent e-mails and compare the answers. Continue to go back to the persons profile and look for discrepancies. For example, to verify a persons age, ask when they either left high school or graduated from university. To find out if he or she really loves hiking, ask where they usually hike. To check employment, ask what he or she does during a regular workday and if they enjoy their work. Aaron believed he was e-mailing the kindest girl until he asked Kyra about her relationship with her sister. Kyra electronically flew off the handle calling her sister names. Aaron new then that he did not like the other Kyra he had just been exposed to. The only thing you risk by asking questions is that your new e-mail friend will drop out of the loop. BRING UP ISSUES that are important to you. If one of your priorities is family, talk about your respective families. It wont take long to find out if this is a shared priority. If you love traveling, raise this topic to see if there is excitement or if he or she has even boarded a plane. Perhaps education, knowledge or current issues are of great interest to you. In that case, raise these matters in your dialogue to probe his or her awareness and interest. A healthy lifestyle might be important to you. Talk about it! There is no point in involving yourself with someone with no interest in a healthy lifestyle. Whatever your values, beliefs or worldviews, use the e-mail exchange to reflect on these issues. Read between the lines. We all have a tendency to read or see things we like, even when they are not there. This practice will help you to determine compatibility early in the game. Shared values are important ingredients for long-term commitment. REMEMBER the reason why you are meeting someone online. If you just want to increase your circle of friends, by all means have fun and meet everyone. If you are searching for the love of your life, be selective and dig deeper. Dont waste each others time. Far too many singles have depleted their dating energy by e-mailing all night long with people who they would never introduce to their parents.
