Medication Debt Killing You? How Resolve Your Prescription Drug Debt

Wednesday, October 31st, 2007

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Cathlene_Martinez] Cathlene Martinez Healthcare has become one of the highest paying industries in the nations. Pharmaceutical companies are recording profits in the billions, while the average Joes debt is spiraling out of control. According to Healthy Aging center for disease control, 80% of Americans over the age of 65 suffer from at least one chronic disease, while 50% have two or more and 40% face the risk of entering a nursing home for long-term care services. Many retirees are forgoing their retirement in order to pay for their costly healthcare expenses. The governments new Medicare Plan only covers prescription costs up until $2251.00. This only allows for a $136 dollars a month per year for prescription costs. Thats saying you have government coverage, many are not eligible for coverage or cant afford insurance. Unfortunately many Americans try to solve this problem by paying for their prescription medication on credit. Of the 6.6 million Americans that are uninsured, more than half reported having problems paying for there medical bills. So how do you get out of this situation? Start out by consolidating your bills into one bill that you can afford. Dont try to set the payment amount for more than you can afford thinking that you will be able to make up the difference somewhere down the line. This will lead to you missing more payments and hurting your credit even more. Instead of paying the high cost of prescription medication at your local drugstore, get on the internet and shop around. If you look hard enough, there are many resources on the internet that will help to save you a ton of money on your prescription medication. However when you order your medication online there are always a few things that you should look for. For starters always make sure that the site that you are purchasing from has a licensed, certified brick and mortar pharmacy filling your prescription. Always make sure that all of the prescriptions are filled through a licensed pharmacist. Last but not least, make sure that there are no hidden charges such as account setup fee, order fee, medical review fee, or dispensing fee. The safest way to order medications online is through a pharmacy advocacy group such as Freebeeforeignpharmacy.com. Freebeeforeignpharmacy.com compiles all the safest and most reputable pharmacies into one database and allows you to compare prices from all of the different pharmacies over the world. They also have a rating system based on consumer feedback, which weeds out fraudulent and rogue pharmacies. Cheating Spouse: 7 Legitimate Motives for Spying

Monday, October 29th, 2007

By Dr. Robert Huizenga Should you spy on your cheating husband or wife? You believe you see signs of a cheating spouse. The need to know whether your spouse is cheating and EXACTLY what kind of cheating is taking place is often strong. There are a number of reasons why the drive to spy is powerful. Here are seven: 1. Trust is a big reason, not of your partner, but yourself. Probably for some time you have sensed something is different or questioned the change of behavior in your partner. Perhaps you confronted your cheating husband or cheating wife and it was met with denial. This created a huge dilemma for you because a part of you was screaming, Hey, this doesn’t fit! I don’t believe it! To deny this part of you, which KNOWS the truth, creates a tremendous internal turmoil. If the truth as you suspect it is confirmed, you can take a deep breath and at least know that you can trust yourself. You are NOT CRAZY! Spying is a way to confirm your suspicions and trust more fully your gut feelings. 2. Spying on cheating husbands or cheating wives often helps the person feel connected to the partner who seems to be steadily moving away. It is a way of maintaining contact and having some sort of connection to this stranger who once was well known. Isnt it like the game of hide-and-seek we used to play as children? Sometimes there, sometimes gone. At least it is a game, and a game is at least some contact, some involvement. You miss the connection and try to find someway to maintain the ties. 3. Spying on a cheating spouse may be an honest attempt to bring resolution to the relationship. You want to know the truth. You sense something does not fit. You suspect there is a breach of something. You want to know what you are up against. You are not willing to stand pat and wait. You are a person of action. You want some sort of movement. You want to get on with the relationship. You want to get on with your life. You know that it is difficult maintaining your sanity when there might be this huge elephant that no one is talking about. You want to know the truth, face the truth, deal with the truth and be free. 4. Cheating husbands or cheating wives often, unfortunately, lead to the demise of marital relationships. If you strongly suspect this to be true for your situation you will want to protect yourself legally. If there is betrayal, lying and deception regarding a third party, other forms of deception may exist financially or in other areas of the relationship. Having evidence does have some impact in some court systems. Whether you need to protect yourself legally depends on the kind of affair facing you and the character of your spouse. Please read through my 7 Reasons For an Affair to determine the situation that faces you. If your spouse is someone who cant say no, doesnt want to say no or is acting out rage, please make sure to take protective steps. 5. You may want to protect yourself medically if you suspect you have a cheating husband or wife. You might be concerned about sexually transmitted diseases. Your health may be at stake. And, of course, you need to know. Shame, guilt or self-absorption may be so powerful in your partner that it gets in the way of responsibly informing you of the medical dangers when another partner is sexually brought into your relationship. 6. Seeing signs of a cheating spouse often mean secrets. Secrets are work! There is not much written about the impact of a secret in a relationship, but believe me, in over two decades of working with strained relationships day in and day out, keeping a secret has a powerful impact. It is the proverbial elephant sitting in the room that no one dare talk about. People take extraordinary measures to tip toe around it, but it IS there. Emotionally, you cant miss it. Secrets are a drain. If the secret persists, its impact is felt in subtle but insidious ways. People become physically ill, sometimes seriously so. People become depressed. People start doing crazy things. Children start acting out, stop achieving, become listless or exhibit a host of other symptoms. Children, or the next generation, often carry the emotional load. You want to spy because you dont want to live with a secret. You want to discover the truth. You want to feel the freeing power of the exposed secret and the opportunity it offers for healing, resolution, a rich relationship and a productive life. 7. Some of us like drama. Soap opera scenarios and adrenaline based lives are a hallmark of our society. We get juiced or pumped up entering into emotional relational triangles that offer intrigue. Without adrenaline, life seems boring or mundane. Perhaps an unspoken reason for an affair may be to fan the fire? Or, you may spy on your cheating spouse to keep the sense of being alive a part of your life. Dr. Robert Huizenga, The Infidelity Coach, has helped hundreds of couples over the past two decades heal from the agony of extramarital affairs and survive infidelity. Themed Weddings - A Pirate’s Bride

Saturday, October 27th, 2007

By Deborah Lewis Ahoy matey! When you were growing up did you enjoy watching old pirate movies like Captain Blood or the Black Swan that showcased a swashbuckling Tyrone Power? I know I did and still do to this day, that’s why I decided to come up with some great wedding tips for a pirate themed wedding. A pirate’s wedding can be loads of fun and can incorporate some unique ideas straight out of your imagination. The first thing is to decide where you would like your pirate wedding to be held. A sandy beach, or an elegant home transformed to resemble a pirate’s hideout? Perhaps you might be interested in contacting a Hollywood producer about using an old pirate ship from a movie set. You make the decision after all this day is one you have dreamed of all your life. Lights! Camera! Action! After you have decided on a unique spot for your wedding it’s time to bring all the little details that make up a wedding to life. Let’s start with some obvious ones like wedding attire. Since you have decided to become a pirate’s bride it’s now up to you to dress the part. You might first look at gowns from the pirate’s era as a starting point. Well heeled brides wore elaborate gowns that often included a corset or lacing and were patterned from silk or damask with puffy sleeves edged with lace on both cuffs and bodice. You might go back and take a look at the stunning gown Princess Diana wore at her wedding to get a good idea of this particular style. Also the color is entirely up to you. Dress your bridesmaids in a plainer version and add the corset for effect. Dressing the groom can be alot of fun using the pirate theme. Pirates dressed in bold colors like crimson red or royal purple breeches and muslin shirts enhanced by puffy sleeves and cuffed with dripping lace. Next go for a black belt embellished with a huge gold buckle and knee high black boots for effect. Follow this flamboyant style with a black, tricorn hat adorned with an electrifying red or purple feather and have the groom wear a gold hoop earring and gold necklaces. Last but not least, you might add a black eye patch for a dazzling finish. Have your groomsmen dress as lesser pirates in more somber attire, after all, the groom is the star. If you really want pirate style, send out invitations made up to look like ransom notes or treasure maps inviting your guests to appear at your wedding. You might also request them to dress in old world attire if they choose. Now that we’ve dressed you and your groom and sent out invitations, it’s time to dress up your wedding feast. Drape your tables in scarlet cloth and give your guests wine bottle stoppers or letter openers boxed in miniature treasure chests. Finally, let the feast began! Offer your guests pewter plates and cups and let them choose from an assortment of foods that include lobsters, coconut shrimp, fresh salads, tropical fruit, roast chicken and baked bread washed down with an assortment of champagnes, liquers, whiskey and sodas. After the feast, you might wish to start your honeymoon in the captain’s cabin complete with port hole so you can look out at the stars. I hope I have given you some great ideas to make your pirate themed wedding truly the wedding of your dreams! So you want to do your Family History?

Friday, October 26th, 2007

By Nick Grbin Genealogy is like a big Jigsaw Puzzle! If you dont put the pieces together correctly, youll never see the full picture. So where do you start? This is the most common question asked. The answer is start with yourself and work backwards. Dont get tempted to skip a few generations and run the risk of researching the wrong line. Its better to be methodical and approach your research step by step. That way, youve less likely to research someone who isnt your relative. A simple but effective way to research your immediate generation is to construct a chart of your family as far as you can go. Then interview and ask your relatives, especially parents and grandparents to fill in the gaps and add more information. This will kick start your research and probably provide about 100 years of history. Be sure to document this well. In particular, identify each person with personal information such as the following: Name Important dates such as their birth, death and marriage (If applicable) Their occupation and interests Their relationship to other members of the family Their birthplace address and other places of residence A Pedigree Chart allows you to list your pedigree such as your parents, grandparents, great grandparents and so on. A Family Work Group Sheet allows you to record the information of your entire family. You need to print multiple copies of the above charts. Purchase a 3 ring binder to store the information. The charts will save you a heap of time and effort because it organizes your information in an orderly and simple format. You will soon notice what important information is missing and what is incomplete. Dont worry this is perfectly normal. This is where the fun begins as you begin to research more carefully. Organizing your information this way will help you avoid the pitfalls that most people face. It will help you establish the proper groundwork. Take small steps; dont go too far back yet. Be very sure about the information you have before you take the next step. Otherwise, you will end up researching the wrong ancestor. I recommend you document all your research so that you dont go over old ground. So, how do you fill in the gaps from your charts? I suggest you circle any missing information to highlight the gaps. As already mentioned you start with yourself and work backwards. You should bring together and document your own life first. Gather any records such as education, photographs, birth certificates, marriage, journals, and family bibles and so on. Then do the same thing for your parents, grandparents etc. All these documents could be a great source of information, providing important dates of events, places of residence, occupations and so on. It will bring your family history alive. If youre visiting relatives homes, be sensitive to their feelings and respectful. Ask permission to obtain copies of any documents, such as wills, Birth, Death and Marriage certificates. Official documents are a great source of information. They provide names, dates, places and information about other relatives. Involve them in your project. Explain you are personally interested in their personal history and tracing your roots. Family documents, photographs and other documents can provide valuable information and point you to the right direction in your research. Often photos and documents have dates and places written on the back of them. This can guide you to where to search for official records. Open your mind; often deceased ancestors have left many sources of information such as scrap books, old family bibles, wills, Birth, death & marriage certificates, letters, postcards, journals, military records, Biographies and so much more. As you speak to your family find out where relatives were married and buried. Churches and Cemeteries can be a good source of information. When visiting the cemetery photograph the tomb stones of your relatives. They usually provide accurate dates and sometimes may reveal names of relatives you never knew existed. Often family members are buried in the same plot or nearby. Nearby unmarked graves may indicate children that died in their infancy? Contact the cemetery administrators for more information. Summary of sources to research: Birth, Death & Marriage Certificates Family Bibles Wills School Reports Photographs Scrap Books Letters Postcards Journals Military Records Biographies Churches Cemeteries CONCLUSION Be patient, persistent and dont completely rely on peoples memories. They can be inaccurate. The most reliable information comes from primary official sources, but you should have an open mind. You never know where you could pick up a lead. Keep all information no matter how insignificant it may seem. Often a piece of information that doesnt initially fit makes perfect sense later when new pieces of information become available. Then the jigsaw puzzle begins to reveal its full picture. Finally, be organized and keep detailed accurate records. Your next step will be to utilize community, state, national and worldwide resources. If you need help and want to save a lot of time and money check out my Genealogy Starter E-Book. It contains valuable information on how to start your Family History, outlines a 5 step quick guide, reviews the best internet sites, shows you where to get free Computer Genealogy Software and outlines numerous resources worldwide to do research. http://www.genealogy4beginners.com Nick Grbin is the webmaster of http://www.genealogy4beginners.com/ The web site outlines a Genealogy Ebook that saves time, effort and money researching your Ancestors, You can subscribe to the FREE Family History for Beginners Newsletter with great tips & information. Do We Really Want To Know The Truth?

Wednesday, October 24th, 2007

By Tad Stevens Everyone says that they want their partners to always tell them the truth, but is that really the case? In my opinion, sentiments about always telling the truth in romantic relationships tend to be based more on self-deception than reflective thought. When it comes to telling the truth in a romantic relationship, the truth cuts both ways. The truth can bring people closer together and it can push people further apart. Telling the truth is important because it creates understanding, intimacy and closeness. But, telling the truth has its limits. To begin with, couples don not always see eye-to-eye on every issues that comes up. And discussing every difference is annoying and it causes unnecessary conflict. Sometimes pretending to get along is the wisest course of action. Not only does withholding the truth sometimes help couples avoid unnecessary conflict, but the truth can also be quite harsh. Over the course of a long-term relationship, partners are going to have negative thoughts and feelings about each other. This is just a part of life. And sometimes it pays to keep one’s negative feelings to oneself. The truth, once spoken, not only hurts, but it cannot be taken back. While negative feelings are often fleeting, expressed negativity can last a lifetime. Unfortunately, partners are much more likely to remember a negative comment than a compliment. When it comes to love and romance, some might argue that it is better to censor one’s thoughts before they are spoken. And if people are so earnest about hearing the truth, why do they punish others for being honest? Most people, when told an unpleasant truth, react poorly - ranging from the silent treatment to a much more aggressive reaction. As a general rule, such punishment is used to teach people the following lesson: Do not do that to me again. As you can see, a paradox quickly emerges. People say they want to know the truth, but their actions suggest otherwise. So, when a partner says “I always want to know the truth,” that is most likely anything but true. I write about close relationships, focusing on the problem of lying and cheating. For more information please visit my blog at Lying and Cheating Blog. And the importance of this card depends on the user how one is using it. It just may be a safety reason for some to use the card and for some it might be the best possible available option to use. Roman Catholicism: Why I had to leave PART 4

Sunday, October 21st, 2007

By Michael Tummillo There are many stories about the “bad popes” of Roman Catholicism. Though many of these are true, the famous “Pope Joan” story is regarded by many as a fabrication. Unless you talk to people like Donna Cross, a novelist who, after 7 years of research, wrote a book on “Pope Joan.” She claims the historical evidence is there. “I would say it’s the weight of evidence — over 500 chronicle accounts of her existence.” Another person who seems convinced, though no longer living, was Martin Polonus, a monk and close advisor to the pope. In his “History of Emperors and Popes,” Polonus wrote about a young woman from Mainz who learned Greek and Latin and became “proficient in a diversity of branches of knowledge.” Pope Joan supposedly served as pope from until 858. She was said to have been a poor German girl whose mud hut village of Mainz was taught Christianity by English missionaries. Supposedly, she took on her brother’s identity when he was killed by Vikings, calling herself John Anglicus (English John), and joined a monastery for boys called Fulda. She disguised herself as a monk to be with her cleric boyfriend in Rome, where she so impressed others with her Christian scholarly learning that she - still impersonating a monk - was eventually elected pope. With ambition and nerve, English John became secretary to a cardinal, and then, as Polonus writes, “the choice of all for pope” in the year A.D. 855. The jig was up when she gave birth during a procession, whereupon she and the child were killed. Other records say she was sent to a convent and that her son grew up and later became bishop of Ostia. The “experts” are torn regarding the legitimacy of the story. Oddly, future popes for 100 years avoided taking that dreadful route - a very direct one at that - upon returning to the Vatican. Polonus writes: “The Lord Pope always turns aside from the street … because of the abhorrence of the event.” If you travel to Italy and ask questions about Pope Joan, many will direct you toward the clues embedded in art, literature and architecture. The Renaissance poet Giovanni Boccaccio, best known for writing “The Decameron,” also wrote a book on “100 Famous Women.” No. 51 on his list? Pope Joan. Rare book dealers in Rome pull ancient tarot cards from their shelves. The card for hidden knowledge is called “La Papessa” — the Female Pope. Northward, in Siena, is the Duomo, where inside the cathedral is a gallery of terra-cotta busts depicting 170 popes, in no particular order. In the 17th century, Cardinal Baronuis, the Vatican librarian, wrote that one of the faces was a female — Joan the Female Pope. He also wrote that the when pope at the time decreed that the statue be destroyed, the local archbishop couldn’t stand to see a good statue go to waste. “The statue was transformed,” believes Donna Cross. “…literally, it [the name, John Anglicus] was scraped off…” and written in its place was “Pope Zachary.” At the Basilica in St. Peter’s Square are carvings by Bernini, one of the most famous artists of the 17th century. Among the carvings are eight images of a woman wearing a papal crown, each faces increasingly contorted as if it were a woman suffering in child birth. Seven of the carved images seem to tell the story of a woman giving birth, the eighth being the unmistakable carving of a smiling baby. Many other papal stories are undeniably true. In many cases, sins of the flesh were the least of their publicized sins. In the Middle Ages, many popes were elevated to office following the murder of their predecessors. During one particularly sad stretch of popes (882 to 1046), there were 37 popes, some of whom served less than a month. For example, Leo V (903) had been pope for only a month before being imprisoned and tortured by Christophorus, who then enthroned himself. Both men were killed in 904 on the orders of Pope Sergius III (904-911). That pope later had a son by his teenaged mistress Marozia who became Pope John XI (931-935). In 914, according to one chronicler, Marozia’s mother Theodora installed her lover on the papal throne as John X (914-928). (Theodora and Marozia effectively controlled the papacy through their lineage and, some say, may be the source of the Pope Joan stories.) John XII (955-963), who landed the pope job at age 19, was accused, perhaps falsely, of sleeping with his father’s mistress, committing incest with his niece, and castrating a deacon. “Popes … killed each other off, hammered each other to death,” says Mary Malone, a former Catholic nun. “There were 12-year-old popes … we have knowledge of a 5-year-old archbishop… It was a very odd time in history.” In later years, murder gave way to bribery as the way down the “Roman Road.” Some 40 popes are believed to have bought their Vatican jobs. But the lax attitude toward celibacy remained unchanged. In large part this was because the Roman Catholic Church was an important route to wealth and power. Sons of influential families were pushed into Church careers much as a wealthy, powerful Ivy League Alumni might pull some strings to get their kid to their Alma Mater. Noblemen with mistresses saw no reason to adjust their life-styles just because they had taken spiritual vows. Sadly, even today, far too many ministers of all denominations see their position as a job rather than a vocation; a calling from God Himself. Cardinals and popes getting their relatives a cushy job at the Vatican was the source of many jokes in Rome for centuries. Innocent VIII (1484-1492) had a son and daughter who lived with him in the Vatican. The notorious Alexander VI (1492-1503), born Rodrigo Borgia, had at least four illegitimate children while still a cardinal, among them the cutthroat Cesare Borgia and the reputed poisoner Lucrezia Borgia. Clement VII (1523-1534), himself illegitimate, had a son whom he attempted to make duke of Florence. Paul III (1534-1539) had four kids; two teen grandsons he made cardinals. Pius IV (1559-1565) had three children, et cetera, ad nauseam. Where papal kids and their holy fathers are concerned, there’s a tradition that Pope Hormisdas (514-523) was the father of Pope Silverius (536-537). It may not be proper to call Silverius illegitimate, since the rule of clerical celibacy was not firmly established in the early Church. Exactly how many “holy fathers” there were is probably impossible to determine, due to the lack of documentation for such things. The Catholic Church has been pretty forthcoming about these naughty popes, opening the Vatican archives to historians in the 19th century. The Church acknowledges that the office has been held by unworthy men, but maintains that their papal functions were unimpaired by their carnality, something we might hear more often in connection with politicians. Alas, the doctrine of papal infallibility applies only to certain formal pronouncements on faith and morals, so it is argued that the bad popes did not lead the church astray. Regarding papal infallibility, the Encyclopedia Britannica says, “The definition of the first Vatican Council … states the conditions under which a pope may be said to have spoken infallibly, or ex cathedra. It is prerequisite that the pope intend to demand irrevocable assent from the entire church in some aspect of faith or morals.” The ordinary teachings of the Church, by contrast, are not infallible. The pope can say what he likes about birth control, for example, and Catholics are obliged to obey, at least in the conservative view. But until he makes an infallible pronouncement on the subject, he has the option of someday changing his mind. ABOUT THE AUTHOR Pastor Michael is founder of t.e.a.m. ministries (team1min@aol.com). Plastic Surgery: Rhinoplasty / Nose Job Information

Saturday, October 20th, 2007

By Stephen Van Zant What is a Rhinoplasty? Rhinoplasty is a very common procedure which aims to change the appearance of the nose to make it more harmonious on the face. The surgery can thin, turn up, augment, shorten or lengthen, and essentially change the shape of the nose. Rhinoplasties are commonly called ‘nose jobs’. It can involve rasping of the nasal bones to remove a bump, resecting the cartiledge to change it’s projection, trimming the cartiledge to make it smaller and more defined and a whole myriad of procedures. Most rhinoplasty procedures are done after the patient has stopped maturing on their face. This usually occurs at 16-17 in girls and a little later in boys. Rhinoplasty can be combined with a chin augmentation, which can help balance the look of both the nose and the chin. Sometimes a problem in one area creates a perceived problem in the other. Common reasons for choosing a Rhinoplasty Possibly everyone has a reason to dislike something about their nose. Whether or not that dissapointment is great enough for you to seek to change it is dependant on the individual. People looking to get rhinoplasty must remember that it is a cosmetic change only, it is also important to understand the limitations of the procedure - what can or can’t be changed. There are realistic and irrational reasons for looking to change your nose. Common complaints of people seeking rhinoplasty: too large, too flat, large bump or convex profile, too wide or fat, too thin, too long, too short, too pinched looking, scooped or concave profile (ski slope nose), hanging columella, functionality - difficulty breathing, crooked, asymettry (nostrils or general structure), bumps, a bifid tip - an indent down the center of the tip, scar tissue, damage from accidents, hooked nose, upturned nose, pointy, bulbuous, lack of definition Common complaints or conditions of people who should not be seeking rhinoplasty: becoming more popular, life advancement, becoming more desirable, winning over someone, Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD) or any other self image disorder, low self esteem due to no visible cause, weak chin, weak jaw, weak or prominant upper jaw, pressure from third parties, career advancement What your nose looks like on the inside View image at: http://gossip.bluelaundry.com/info/rhino/rhinoplasty.htm The bone structure of the nose makes up the upper part of the nasal area. It consits of ideally symmetrical bones which form a pyramid shape. This is commonly known as the bridge. The dorsum is the flat surface at the front of the nose caused by the meeting of the nasal structures. The glabella is where the bridge joins the forehead. The lower two thirds of the nose are made up of cartiledge structures. These consist of five large pieces, the septum, two lateral nasal cartiledges, and the two greater alar cartileges. There are also several smaller pieces of cartilege known as the lesser alar cartileges. The septum is a piece of cartilege that runs down the center of your nose, it divides the nasal cavity in half. The front part of the septum (furthest from your face) is the thickest, it is the thickest where it joins the nasal bones. The lateral cartilage is at about the half-way point down the nose. It is wide and flat, and has a triangular shape. The front part of the lateral cartilage is thicker, and the upper side of it is connected to the nasal bones, the lower part of it is conected with the greater alar cartilages. The greater alar cartilages are small and thin, and flexible. They are situated at the lower part of the nose, and is folded back upon itself, forming the tip and forming the lower walls of the nose. The two are connected at the center, and as they spread out from the center they become flatter, narrower and more oval shaped. The nostrils can be changed in a rhinoplasty as well, by excising sections from the floor of the nose or at the junction where the nose meets the cheek. The ideal nose There is no such thing as an ideal nose, an ideal nose is based upon the features of that person and what works for their face. A nose that may be attractive on one person may look out of place and actually detract from their good looks on another. Given that, time and time again people have searched for a formula to determine the perfect face. Leonardo Da Vinci Facial Thirds The width of the nose at the widest part of the base should be about the same distance as the distance between the eyes The length of the upper lip should be twice the distance between the lower lip and the chin A slight upwards rotation in the tip is better and more attractive Yale Medical University (a) The distance from the infraorbital rim to the base of the nose should be equal to the width of the nasal base (from the outside of each nostril to nostril) and the distance of the middle third of the face (brow to the nasal base). (b) The nasal length (radix to tip or RT) should equal the distance from the stomion to menton which equals 1.6 x TS (tip to stomion). (c) Ideal tip projection (alar crease to the tip) equals 0.66 x ideal nasal length (RT). (d) The line from the mid-glabellar area to the menton should bisect the nasal bridge, the nasal tip, and Cupids bow. (e) The nasal dorsum should be outlined by two slightly curved divergent lines extending from the medial supraciliary ridges to the tip defining points.(f) The width of the bony base is approximately equal to 80% of the alar base. (g) The width of the alar base is equal to the intercanthal distance or one eye width. (h) The alar rims should have a slight outward flare in an inferior direction. (i) Lines connecting the tip defining points, the supratip break area, and the columellar lobular angle form two equilateral triangles. (j) A line outlining the alar rims and columella resembles a gull in gentle flight. (k) With the eyes in frontal gaze, the nasofrontal angle lies at a level between the upper eyelashes and the supratarsal crease. (l) The nasal dorsum, in women, lies approximately 2 mm behind and parallel to a line from just above the nasofrontal angle to the tip defining points. In men, the dorsum is slightly higher. (m) 50-60% of the tip lies anterior to a vertical line drawn adjacent to the most projecting portion of a normally positioned upper lip. (n) Tip projection equals alar base width. (o) Tip rotation is determined by the degree of the nasolabial angle, measured as the angle between vertical and a line drawn through the most anterior and posterior edges of the nostrils (normal 95-100 degrees in women and 90-95 degrees in men) (nasolabial angle is not the same as columellar labial angle). (p) The columellar-lobular angle is approximately 45 degrees. (q) On a basal view, the outline of the nasal base forms an equilateral triangle; the lobular to nostril ratio is 1:2. (r) The upper lip projects 2 mm more than the lower lip, and in women, the chin lies slightly posterior to the lower lip; slightly stronger in men.The distance from the mandibular angle to the menton is the distance from the menton to the natural hairline (or trichion). The procedure - Open or closed Surgeons performing rhinoplasty have a choice between two types of incision methods. An open or closed technique differes in the incision method, an open technique the surgeon will cut open the nose exposing the inner cartileges. A closed percedure is done with cuts, usually inside the nose. This operation is done wihout visual. What’s more important is the skill level of the surgeon. Some surgeons prefer one method over another. In an open rhinoplasty the cut is made across the base of the columella, the small wedge of flesh that creates and seperates your nostrils. The incision is usually made with either a “Z” or an inverted “V” cut, this help minimize the appearance of the scar. The scar that it leaves when healing is complete is usually very faint and eventually fades away on most people, sometimes there may be a faint pink line where the incision was made. In rarer circumstances a keloid scar can form, but this can be prevented or treated with post-operative care (Such as dermabrasion or kenalog injections) - Nasal augmentation Different shaped implant can be added onto the structure of the nose, increasing it’s projection or width. There are a wide variety of materials to choose from, most doctors will use one particular material because they believe it to be superior. There are implants which can be harvested from your own body, and artificial implants to choose from. Bone grafts are usually taken from the patients ribs. There is a small percentage of absorption when implanted, as well there is a longer time for recovery. An extra surgery is performed to extract the graft. There are possibilities of bone infection as well as excessive calcification. Rib grafts have been reported to warp and deform, as like any graft. Cartilage grafts can be taken from the patients, either from their rib or ears. When taken from the ear a tiny sliver is extracted from the back of the ear, this is usually used in patients who have had too much cartilege removed. Rib cartilege is usually taken from the false floating ribs. Silicone implants have been used for facial implanting since around 1956. They are hard, yet flexible depending on how they are manufactured.Alloderm is donor tissue, through treating the donor tissue is stripped until it is only a protein framework. It contains no human cells. It can last up to two years, and in some cases indefinetly. The product is expensive. It will not mimick the look of bone, but can be used for cartilege implanting and structure work.Polyethylene is a plastic which is porous, resembling coral. Scar tissue can heal into these pores securing the iplant.Gore-Tex is a biocompatable micro-porous material which allows tissue to grow into it. It is soft, flexible and strong. Gore-Tex is easily carved for further personalization to each patients face and needs.Medor/Porex is a light weight high density polyethylene. The implant material has a long history of medical use without any harmful effects. Because of it’s porosity, it does have one downfall. If at a later date the implant has to be removed, the operation will become more difficult as it has fused. - Ethnic rhinoplasty As with any rhinoplasty the goal is to create something that will work harmoniously with the patients face. With an ethnic rhinoplasty it is important to retain and incorporate that persons ethnicity into the final nose. A good rhinoplasty will create a nose that does not stand out or attract attention. In most cases the patient wants more projection and definition in the nose bridge, as well as a narrowing of the nostrils. Ethnic skin does have a higher chance of keloid scarring, which is the formation of excessive scar tissue. In pigmented skin, there is also the possibility of hypo or hyper pigmentation.
